Governor Cuomo this week was talking out loud about some of the actions he will have to take next year to balance the NYS budget. As the state fiscal situation continues to worsen, raising income taxes and fees is back on the table. We are quickly approaching decision time in Albany about the states future. Our [...]
Debt Levels
I read this week how Johnson City has settled with the Johnson City Police Association and part of the settlement is adding 4 patrolmen to the force. Anybody think that Johnson City can do this with out borrowing to make payroll? Endicott, Johnson City and Binghamton could up end like Detroit and run out of money. Governor [...]
Reason or Force
There are only 2 ways to reach a human being, reason or force. Example: Traffic laws, signs telling us the limit of our speed while driving, signs asking us to stop texting or use our seatbelts for safety. How about reasoning with a child on their misbehavior. If reasoning worked, we would live in a [...]
How Do We Bring About Change?
How do we bring about change for our local community? We need to lobby the vested interests and forget about Albany. The more our elected leaders change things, the more they stay the same. What groups have the biggest interest in keeping the status quo going? Who influences the writing of laws and regulations? How do you get access to those that make the laws? [...]
Economic Councils are pushing on a string
Economic Councils are pushing on a string to get their share of New York State economic development incentives. Elmira Mayor JohnTonello points to increased emphasis on rail infrastructure to spur manufacturing industry in our region. Reminds me when Repersentive Hinchey was in town talking up I86, how the upgrades to RT17 would bring economic prosperity to [...]
Managing Our Decline
Lets just go ahead and garnish all the wage earners in Broome County to maintain all the public budgets. Driving around the County looking at the flood damage and mentally calculating the costs of lost wages, property damage and business closures, we the residents have a bill to pay. Now granted, insurance companies and FEMA will [...]

Why We Care
New York is the tax capital of the world and one of the MOST dysfunctional States in the Nation. NYS is facing a $13B+ deficit this year yet the proposed budget is STILL UP by over a BILLON Dollars. NYS has Property Taxes that are 79% above the National Average and Current Pension Plans and Healthcare benefits for Public Employees are breaking the State. Our Elected Officials in Albany are controlled by Special Interest groups.
Broome County participates in EVERY SINGLE Medicaid program while other states provide far less. We CAN’T AFFORD THIS ANY LONGER!
